#1- Popping With PositivityToday was the first event in our mental health series. We went down early to the library to set up the projector and pour popcorn we bought into cups for the attendants. As they arrived, we signed them into a google form for lab attendance purposes as well as entering their names into a drawing at then end of the year. Twenty people signed up that they were planning to come, but forty people showed up; we had a really good turn out. Although there weren't speakers to begin with, our head tech guy brought some to us, and we were able to finish the movie off with louder sound. When finished, we cleaned up the room we used in the library and got our stuff packed up. All in all, everything went well, and we are excited for the next events we have planned:) Our plan is to have one every other week to get them organized, so our next one will be the week after next.

Project overviewRealizing that mental health is a big deal right now, we felt that we wanted to start a project initiative to help boost the mental health and morale of the school. We arrived at the idea for a mental health series, where we would plan events for the student body to attend during lab that would decrease stress and promote mental health. Getting Started After brainstorming, we came up with many ideas for activities that we could put on during lab time every other Wednesday. We tried to come up with different events that would allow people to relax and have fun during a busy school day. Sessions in the worksLogistically, we knew that we would have to get our project approved by administration to make sure they were on board with these events being held during the school day. We pitched the general idea to Mrs. Dawson, the assistant principal, and gave her an overview of the ideas we had brainstormed so far. She and administration were on board and has approved the first two days, Popping with Positivity and Board Games. Getting the interest of studentsWe decided for planning purposes we would create a Google Form to be sent to all students for them to fill out which events they plan to attend. This way, we can be confident that we have student interest and do more to promote the different events. Here is the form we created: To promote student involvement, we decided on an incentive for attendance. For each event that people attend, their name will be entered into a drawing to win a prize at the end, possibly a gift card to Chick-fil-a or Brew 52. Names will be taken at the door and put into this Google Doc for record keeping. Preparing for The First EventOur first event is the Popping with Positivity movie day on March 5. In order to prepare we will need to promote it to the student body as well as purchase the popcorn in bulk for those who attend. I'm excited to finally implement our project coming up soon.
